These third grade students received a real treat in their classroom today! An introduction to the I-Pod Touches and the mobile cart they are stored in for charging and syncing purposes. Mr. Williamson, from the Educational Technology department came out to the school and shared with them a Power Point presentation about the I-Pod Touch, it's features, how it works and how the cart is also an important tool to charge, sync and store all of the I-Pod Touches. The students were also made aware of the check in and check out process that will be used each time a student checks the I-Pod Touch in or out. Once the presentation was complete, Mr. Williamson presented a short scavenger hunt they would complete using applications such as Safari, Calendar, Maps and Weather.
The students broke off into groups of four and Mr. Williamson, Ms. Thibadeau and I passed out the I-Pod touches to each of the students. Once they had them in their hands there were faces of excitement, collaborative discussions and active learning all taking place at the same time! The students wanted to help each other and were focused on finding the answers to the different questions using the app's already on the I-Pod touches. It is an exciting experience for all of the adults involved too. The teachers were learning from the students and the students were learning from the teachers! We look forward to the days and months ahead as we continue to use these innovative tools to enhance the student's instruction in the classroom.
